A workforce who can read, write and spell adequately, will benefit the whole of society. Individuals will feel much better about themselves and businesses will run more smoothly.

The downward (literacy) spiral in native English speakers can be attributed in part to the failure to implement a phonetic linguistic approach to the teaching of reading writing and spelling.
Moreover, many people are now writing as they speak, which leads to all kinds of errors.

Plus, we now have the phenomena of 'text speak' and computer (email) abbreviations. Result? Chaos!

Over the years we have met many intelligent people who are poor spellers.

Someone we have collaborated with in the past is a famous dyslexic surgeon. He struggled to pass his medical exams, until he found anatomy more suited to his visual learning style.

His spatial awareness is a gift that made him stand out in his speciality of orthopaedics.

What we are saying here is 'be aware', rather than 'beware'. It would not only be illegal to discriminate against someone because they had a learning difference, but you could be letting a genius slip through the net!
Einstein is a good example of a superbly gifted individual who had a lifelong struggle with written language.

Owners and managers need to know that their product or service is being portrayed in the best possible manner. If the telephone is the first point of contact, your future business depends on that key member of staff.

Are their language skills adequate? Can you make sense of their written work?

For the future success of your business, you need to know the strengths within your family of workers. Weaknesses in literacy can be addressed, but first they have to be identified.
