Any written statements leaving your offices should enhance your reputation - not ruin it. A semi-literate employee could cost you dear. Our objective is to make your business more efficient, by identifying strengths and weaknesses in ability and literacy.
There are some jobs where higher literacy skills are essential. Call centre staff for example, especially in the emergency services need to be able to record details quickly and accurately. In addition, they will also need a good short term (working) memory in order to fulfil their role. Mistakes cost lives! We can ascertain whether an individual's learner profile is suited to such a role.
The value of testing to the public sector (especially health services) is obvious. Practicing staff, whatever their role, need to have a higher than average ability. A grasp of basic English is not good enough. Good communication, be it written or verbal, is an essential part of a first rate service. Budgets could be better balanced too, if misunderstandings - due to language - were lessened.
Lack of literacy skills is costing businesses an estimated £10 billion per year. This does not take account of the public sector. Spelling errors can seriously undermine an organisation’s credibility. In HR terms, it is best recruitment practice to identify such problems at an early stage. |

Having specialised in the assessment and remediation of dyslexia for 30 years, our aim is not to discriminate against the poor speller (specific difficulties such as dyslexia will be flagged up, as they may need further attention). We see profiling as positive for any employee - current or potential.
Someone with literacy skills significantly below average, may have amazing spatial ability. This may mean they would be good in a creative thinking role. Employees will be more productive if they are working in an area where they can shine. It's good for their selfesteem and your business! |
