Over 30 years, we have seen how much better the outcomes are when problems are assessed at an early stage. The sooner we can 'catch' people the better. Psychological problems can lay dormant until teenage years. Yet we recently saw a child under ten with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The condition stemmed from frustration borne out of an undiagnosed specific learning difficulty (dyslexia). However, once this was addressed, she still needed help to conquer OCD.

The vast majority of psychological problems we see are due to lack of recognition and lack of support. These symptoms tend to get progressively worse.

Out of a desire to help people affected in this manner, Christina embarked on Schema Therapy training. Anyone who is experiencing symptoms of stress and / or anxiety can benefit from Schema Therapy.
  Unlike other CBT treatments, Schema Therapy is not aimed at modifying minor psychiatric symptoms. The effect of these treatments is transient. Schema Therapy is much more pro-active! It actually changes the deep personality structures that have led people into the gloom of negativity.

Invariably, the original setting up of these 'Schemas' in the brain, was no fault of the patients. It is important to emphasize this point. We all experience Schema Modes. They are the emotional states we feel at any given moment. When triggered by life situations, they may lead us to over-react.

These 'modes' can not only lower our mood but may make us act in a manner detrimental to our well being. Patients often feel a sense of responsibility and failure. This in itself can hold them back from seeking solutions, as can the inertia, which is often present. Schema Therapy can help people over such hurdles and set them back on the path to positivity.
