Access Education was founded in 1982 by Christina Jubb. It arose from frequent requests for dyslexia tests based more on educational needs rather than psychological. Today we have a broad client base in the UK and overseas. We frequently welcome English speaking pupils from Europe.
Dyslexia testing can be carried out from as young as five years old. There is no upper limit and over a third of the people we see here are aged 18+.
Most clients are referred, or refer themselves, due to underachievement.
There are a number of reasons for failing to reach potential, of which specific developmental dyslexia is one.
Although we specialise in dyslexia,
our dyslexia tests are aimed
at anyone - at school or in the
workplace - who is struggling.
Our experience is broad and our knowledge extensive. Staff regularly attend up-date conferences in related areas. Schema Therapy is now offered to clients who have suffered psychological effects (of dyslexia). It is important to stress, that psychological damage can be avoided if dyslexia is identified, acknowledged and addressed at an early stage.
We are also in regular touch with leading experts throughout the world. |

Our dyslexia tests will:
- Establish intellectual ability (IQ) - using standardised measures (incl 'closed' tests)
- Indicate whether or not a person is dyslexic
- Identify the level of a person’s strengths and weaknesses
- Provide recommendations to help achieve potential
- Request Access Arrangements (extra time, use of computer in examinations) and support applications for Disabled Students Allowance (DSA)

Unfortunately, it seems that my family's story of dyslexia and the problems that it brings is a very common one. However, meeting people like Tina and Mike, who are so passionate about what they do, is very rare. Having been pushed from pillar to post, seeing countless, questionable experts with no real answers. The situation became a confusing, frustrating nightmare which left us feeling bewildered and helpless. Attending a long succession of pointless meetings with people and getting nowhere. By chance I spoke to another parent of our anguish and that's when we met Tina and Michael and the years of utter despair evaporated in a single meeting. At last we had met people that understood our situation. They gave us all the answers we needed and encouraging practical support.
Meeting Tina and Mike has been a life changing experience for the whole family with both my daughters, husband, mother and other family members being dyslexic. My youngest daughter despite being only five, has found a whole new level of confidence. She now understands that having dyslexia is not her fault.
Recently, being told that she would be unable to align the alphabet correctly, her reply was 'I can and I will!' and to the great surprise of her teacher she did. Jane now knows that instead of being repeatedly rubbished at school, she now has people on her side. Tina and Mike offered very comprehensive, practical advise that has proved a great success. When my older daughter started to experience problems, I trusted Tina and Mike. They look at far more than reading and spelling. If a child is dyslexic, they'll tell you. If not, they'll tell you that too.
These people are a guiding star in a very dark night and a real beacon of hope. My family cannot thank them enough and I personally thank God that I found them when I did.
